Gunung Kidul Forms Team to Mitigate Suicide Risk

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Badingah, Regent of Gunung Kidul, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has formed a team to mitigate suicide risk in the region.
He said that the region has seen 20 suicide cases and two attempted suicide this year.
“It needs to be coordinated with all parties, the government, the police, Religious Affairs Ministry, Health Ministry, Interfaith Forum and other relevant parties,” he said.
The Religious Affair Office Gunung Kidul chapter head Mukotib added that the suicide prevention efforts include religious preaching.
Preachers will meet people who are unable to attend religious congregations or suicide prevention awareness events, according to him.
Meanwhile, Gunung Kidul Police Community Guidance Unit (Binmas) head First Inspector Suharyo said that the police will visit residents who are likely to commit suicide, such as those who live alone and being neglected.
“Officers will personally visit the residents,” he said.
