TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Jokowi led the ceremony of the National Police 71st anniversary at the National Monument (Monas) square this morning.


President Joko Widodo and the First Lady Iriana, Vice President Jusuf Kalla and his wife Mufidah arrived at the location at 8 am local time.


The National Police anniversary falls on July 1 but was only celebrated today as the police have to wait until the Eid Holidays ended.

“The ceremony serves as a moment for Polri [National Police] to evaluate and improve their performance and programs initiated by the police chief, the promoter,” Jokowi said.


As many as 2,408 joint personnel comprising the police, the military, the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and the Boy Scouts attended the ceremony. Also present were police chiefs of friendly countries and representatives of the neighboring countries’ police force.


At the ceremony, President Jokowi awarded the “Bintang Bhayangkara Narariya” to four select cops.
