TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker, Fahri Hamzah, agrees with DPR’s special committee (Pansus) to boycott the Indonesian National Police and Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) out of the 2018 State Budget Draft meeting.

Fahri Hamzah claims that DPR as the highest state regulatory agency must be able to discipline state agencies that refuse to be monitored.

“DPR must start the tradition of disciplining state officials that communicates with the DPR,” said Fahri Hamzah on Wednesday, June 21.

The notion to not hold the 2018 state budget meeting was initially suggested by one of the special committee’s member, Muhammad Misbakhun. He argues that KPK and the Police refused to obey the constitution regarding state institutions in presenting and forcefully picking-up Miryam S. Haryani, who is the suspect of a perjury in the e-KTP criminal case.

The DPR special committee previously asked for KPK’s permission to present Miryam in the hearing which would discuss the alleged threat Miryam received from DPR’s Legal Commission. KPK argued that by doing so would be an obstruction of justice.

Meanwhile, General Tito Karnavian from the Indonesian National Police refused to forcefully pick-up Miryam because it had no clear basis of procedural law.

Although the special committee has not officially decided to boycott KPK and the Police, Fahri Hamzah claims that DPR must use its authority against KPK and Police.
