TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Investigative report “Human Trafficking into Malaysia” in Tempo magazine this week is centered around the network and modus operandi to carry out human trafficking of migrant workers from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) in particular.

The relationship of Malaysia-based recruitment agency NG Bersatu and Medan-based recruitment agency PT Cit Sari Asih, as well as human trafficking ring in NTT, is apparent in the sending of Sarlin Agustina Djingib, a migrant worker from Sabu Raijua, NTT. Sarlin arrived in Malaysia in August 2015. She was not even 20. “Forged identity [document] and passport were made [available] by Yohanes’ subordinates,” she said.

Sarlin flew to Batam and met Angellin Wijaya, Seri Safkini’s daughter. Angellin later accompanied her to Batam Center Port to cross into Johor Bahru. Sarlin was picked up by Jasmin, an Indian-Malaysian. As of now, Sarlin has not secured a work permit.

Oey Wenny Gotama has denied the reports that she wire transferred billions of rupiah into Seri Safkini’s bank account. Yet, Ng Jing Hao, NG Bersatu manager in Puchong, Malaysia, has confirmed the reports. “Wenny paid an Indonesia-based company,” said Jing Hao who also claimed that the company had partnered with PT Cut Sari Asih. He, however, played down claims that the company recruits illegal workers. “All [migrant workers] have their own work permit.”

Seri Safkini and his daughter Angellin Wijaya could not be reached for comment. Their house in Kalideres, West Jakarta, was left unattended. PT Cut Sari Asih office in Medan Johor, Medan, which was raided by police in August 2016, was padlocked. Sari is currently at large.
