TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry says the Soekarno-Hatta Airport train will carry 33,000 passengers daily, meaning that the use of private vehicles would be reduced.
“The plan is to carry 33,000 passengers daily. It’s 20 percent of passengers [flow from Jakarta to Soekarno-Hatta and vice versa],” Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said after inspecting the airport train station in Jakarta on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
The construction of Soekarno-Hatta Airport train station is ongoing. The station will be connected to other stations, namely Sudirman Baru, Duri Kepa and Batu Ceper. Their airport train station is now 60 percent complete.
The train station will also be connected to Terminal 3 Ultimate and Terminal 2 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. “Lane 1 between terminal 3 and terminal 2 will be completed by June. All will be completed by September,” Budi said.
Airport train is expected to encourage people to use public transport to Soekarno-Hatta Airport. State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Rini Soemarno said she want to further increase the capacity of the train.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport train station will be equipped with supporting facilities, such as ticket counters, public spaces, electronic gates, waiting rooms, commercial rooms, toilets, small mosques, rail administrator room and SkyTrain station.
The airport train station is designed to be connected to SkyTrain, an automated people mover system (APMS).
