Japan Investment Value Doubled, Association Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The value of Japanese investments in Indonesia has doubled within the last two years. "In the last six years, the total value of Japanese investment reached up to USD 19.7 billion," said Heru Santoso, Secretary General of the Indonesia-Japan Friendship Association (PPIJ) in a written statement on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.
According to the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board’s (BKPM) record, the value of Japanese investment from 2011 to 2016 was among the largest in Indonesia.
The number of Japanese companies in Indonesia has also reached more than 1,750 companies mainly focused on infrastructure, services, and manufacturing sector.
"Japanese investments in Indonesia have provided more added-value than just foreign direct investment and labor absorption," Heru said.
Heru added that through direct investments, Japan has contributed in increasing Indonesian human resources quality, and transfer of technology. Japan’s investment in micro and medium enterprises sector, according to Heru, will certainly accelerate transfer technology and economic growth.
