TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Zudan, Director General of Demography and Civil Registry at the Home Affairs Ministry, revealed that 36 fake electronic identification cards (e-IDs) sent from Cambodia were printed on used forms.

"The fake e-IDs were printed on used cards which already had data in them," Zudan said during a press release at the Home Affairs Ministry in Jakarta on Monday, February 13, 2017.

Zudan added that the used forms were obtained from 20 regions in Jakarta, including Pinang Ranti, Tanah inggi, Kartini, Karang Anyar, Cempaka Baru, Petamburan, Kemayoran, Kapuk, and Karet Tengsin.

Based on investigation results, Zudan explained that the used forms were not purchased but were obtained as they were not properly destroyed by the relevant village offices. Zudan added that the chips attached to the form were intact so that the data can be read by card reader. However, Zudan confirmed that the data contained in the fake cards was different from that printed on them.

Earlier, customs office director general Heru Prambudi reported that as many as 36 fake identity cards, along with 32 tax registration cards, a passbook, and an ATM card, were smuggled from Cambodia via FedEx.

The finding sparked a rumor that the e-IDs were created by hacking the Home Affairs Ministry’s server in order to be misused during the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election.
