TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is committed to raise infrastructure investment to support Indonesia's ambitious targets. ADB has approved to a Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) with Indonesia for 2016-2019 period.

The programs supported are those directed at sustainable economic growth that benefits the entire nation. ADB sees Indonesia as having achieved rapid social, economic and political progress since its independence seven decades ago.

"ADB's new partnership with Indonesia will help extend those progresses by paving ways towards inclusive growth and preserving the environment," ABD deputy country director for Indonesia Resident Mission (IRM), Sona Shrestha, said in a written statement Friday, October 21, 2016.

Sona said that ADB's support for the development of energy infrastructure will push for reliability and efficiency in the national power grid, and promote cleaner energy sources such as geothermal and natural gas.

To boost income in rural areas, the ADB will provide support that focuses on irrigation, water supply, and high-value crops. In urban areas, the ADB is committed to help the city poor to gain benefits from improved management of sewer and wastewater.

She said ADB's support for government reform in the fields of investment climate improvement and cost reduction is in line with efforts to expand economic bases and create jobs.

She said that although Indonesia has created access to education at every level, quality is still an issue. "That's why the ADB will focus on supporting the improvement quality and relevance of education programs."

ADB has 67 members, of which 48 are Asia-Pacific countries—including Indonesia. In 2015, ADB's total assistance value reached US$27.2 billion, which covers a co-financing value of US$10.7 billion.
