Jokowi Inaugurates Electricity Infrastructures in Papua

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate six electrical infrastructures projects in Papua and West Papua Province on Monday, October 17, 2016, according to a press release received by Tempo. The infrastructures include the Orya Genyem 2x10 Megawatt Hydroelectric power plant, Hydro Prafi Mini Power Plant 2x1, 25 MW.
Other projects that will be inaugurated by the President are 174.6 kilometers-long high voltage power transmission line connecting Genyam-Waena-Jayapura, and a 43.4 kilometers-long high voltage power transmission line connecting Holtekamp-Jayapura.
In addition, Jokowi will also inaugurate the Waena-Sentani 20 Mega volt Ampere substation and the 20 mega volt ampere substation at Jayapura. The government hoped that the new infrastructure projects will help to address power supply shortage in the two provinces.
Currently, Papua and West Papua generate a total of 294 MW of electricity with a peak load of 242 MW. Meanwhile the annual growth of average peak load in both provinces reached eight percent with 521 thousand customers in total.
In addition to inaugurating electrical infrastructures, Jokowi will also visit a primary school located in the Jayapura District where the President will distribute extra foods for expectant mothers, toddlers, and students.
