Ministry to Work on Three New Dams

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry expected to start the construction process of three dams to by the end of this year. The three dams are the Kuwil Kawangkoan dam in North Sulawesi, the Ladongi dam in Southeast Sulawesi, and the Way Sekampung dam in Lampung. "The target is to finish [building] the dams by 2020," said the Director of Dams of the Ministry Imam Santoso last week.


Santoso explained that contract signing process for the construction of Ladongi dam and Way Sekampung dam are planned to be done next week. Meanwhile, the construction contract for Kuwil Kawangkoan has already been signed. "We're ready anytime. Construction will continue, no need to wait for groundbreaking," Imam said.


The Kuwil Kwangkoan dam and the Ladongi dam would require Rp 1,51 Trillion investment and Rp 907 billion, respectively.


The Ministry is also in the process of completing the constructions several dams in regions across Indonesia, including the Teritip dam in East Kalimantan, the Bajulmati dam in East Java, and the Payaseunara dam in Aceh.
