TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Indonesia is aiming to win three titles in Indonesia Open 2016, now called BCA Indonesia Open Super Series Premier (BIOSSP) 2016, in Istora Senayan, Jakarta on May 30 to June 5, 2016.
Indonesia pins its hopes on men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, though men’s and women’s singles also have the chance to compete at the top in the tournament that will be participated by top 10 players in the respective category.
“We are relying on mixed doubles and men’s doubles. But we also have a big chance in women’s doubles,” said Indonesia team manager Ricky Soebagdja in his statement on Sunday, May 29, 2016.
In men’s doubles, Indonesia still trusts Hendra Setiawan/Muhammad Ahsan, with Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Gideon and Ricky Karanda/Angga Pratama as backups.
In mixed doubles, aside from Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, Indonesia also banks on Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto. Whereas in women’s doubles Greysia Polii/Nitya Krishinda Maheswasi will be relied upon in the tournament with a total prize of US$900,000.
Men’s singles has Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Ihsan Maulana, Firman Abdul Kholik dan Bayu Pangisthu.
“For Jonatan, Anthony, Ihsan, Firman and Bayu, the tournament [can] be used to gain experience and get points to improve their world rankings. Likewise for women’s singles,” Ricky said.
In women’s singles, Indonesia has high hopes for Linda Wenifanetry, who won bronze in BWF World Championship 2015. Maria Febe and Fitriani will also feature in the tournament.
