PBSI to Focus on Olympics after Thomas-Uber Disappointment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The Central Executive Board of Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI) said that after Thomas and Uber Cup tournaments it will focus on preparations ahead of 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
“The preparations for Rio Olympics have been carried out for long, our main focus are Thomas [Cup] and the Olympics; until August, we focus on the Olympics,” said the Chairman of PBSI Central Executive Board Gita Wirjawan yesterday, May 23, 2016, at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang.
A number of athletes will also prepare themselves to participate in Indonesia Open that will commence next week, he said.
On the achievements of Thomas and Uber teams, he said that he is proud despite failure to bring the trophies.
“Despite failing to win Thomas Cup, I’m quite proud of Thomas and Uber teams, maybe it’s not our time. We believe our future efforts will bring more pride for all of us,” Gita said.
Ten Indonesian badminton players to participate in Rio Olympics are Tommy Sugiarto in men’s singels, Linda Wenifanetri in women’s singles, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan in men’s doubles, Greysia Polii/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari in women’s doubles, and two mixed doubles players, namely Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir and Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto.
