TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Two Iranian banks expressed their interests to invest in Indonesia, said Iranian Economic and Finance Minister Ali Taiebnia in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.

“There are currently two banks from Iran that wish to invest in the Indonesian banking sector; Saman Bank and Parsian Bank,” Ali Taiebnia told Antara.

He also said those private banks want to build new banks or even buy shares of banks in Indonesia. One of the reasons the Iranian banks choose Indonesia is because they want to build a good cooperation system in both countries’ banking sector.

“Another purpose is to advance and accelerate the development of economic relations between the two countries,” said Ali.

Ali Taiebnia plans to meet with Vice President Jusuf Kalla in Jakarta with the talks on banking relationship of both countries as one of their agenda.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo previously said that Indonesia will be reopening banking relationship with Iran last March, which was addressed after holding a bilateral meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in the sideline of Organization of Islamic Cooperation Summit on March 3, 2016.
