TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Growth of non-oil industry in the third quarter of 2015 fell to 5.21 percent, compared to the third quarter of 2014 at 5.73 percent. The slowing growth of the industry was caused by global economic slowdown.

Secretary General of Ministry of Industry, Syarif Hidayat, said externally growth in global economy has not yet to show signs of improving. This caused demand from other countries has decreased and made it difficult for Indonesia to boost exports.

"From the internal factors, the majority of our industrial raw materials are still imported, so it is difficult for the domestic industry," Syarif said, in Jakarta, Friday (13/11).

This condition caused the decline of industrial production. The decline in purchasing power also complicated the manufacturing industry.

Syarif explained, Indonesia's economy was influenced by consumption. To boost the domestic economy, the government was now trying to focus on production.

Ministry of Industry recorded highest growth in non-oil industrial branches in the third quarter of 2015 was achieved by machinery and equipment industry by 14.98 percent. Then, it was followed by chemical, pharmaceutical and traditional medicine industry by 10.21 percent, and processing of tobacco industry by 8.86 percent.

Meanwhile, the largest contribution to national GDP in the third quarter of 2015 given by the manufacturing sector by 20.41 percent. Of these, the non-oil industry contributed by 17.82 percent.
