Jokowi, Sri Mulyani Discuss Macroeconomics and 2024 State Budget

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, conducted a limited meeting with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Monday, February 20, 2023. Sri asserted that the meeting was held to discuss the macroeconomic framework and fiscal policy substance for the drafting of the 2024 State Budget.
Minister Sri explained that in the State Budget cycle, the government will begin the discussion with what would be the macroeconomic and fiscal policy aim for 2024. "The discussion will be solidified in the State Budget drafting process, it will even be presented and consulted with the House of Representatives," Sri Mulyani said on the Presidential Secretary YouTube account on Monday, February 20, 2023.
Sri said that the meeting also discussed global environmental issues. Sri asserted that for 2023-2024, the challenges would be increasing geopolitical tension and high inflation which can result in an increase of global interest rate.
In addition, Sri said that the ending of Chinese lockdown policy after the Covid-19 pandemic may present various possibilities and challenges to be anticipated. For next year, the considerably strong Indonesian economic momentum and strong economic growth of 5.3 percent will be maintained.
"The momentum can still be maintained for 2023 and 2024," Sri Mulyani said.
Sri explained that such a condition means that household consumption demands can still grow over five percent and the inflation rate can be controlled. Sri added that investment momentum will also be maintained.
"We need to anticipate global conditions in the form of distorted export because of geopolitical conditions. Also the price of commodities, which becoming increasingly uncertain because of political competition between major global powers," Sri said.
