TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Indonesian airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP II) has planned to invest Rp 2 trillion (US$150 billion) in a new runway construction at the Soekarno Hatta International Airport. The fund is taken from the State Equity Participation (PMN) approved by the House of Representatives.

AP II has planned to use the PMN to acquire land in North Tangerang to expand the airport and build a new runway. The third runway construction is expected to be completed by late 2017 to accommodate larger airplanes and to reduce congestions.

Currently, the Soekarno Hatta Airport has two parallel runways linked by two cross taxiways. AP II has also planned an expansion of its pipelines that includes a construction of terminal 4 in 2021, as well as renovation works for terminal 1 and terminal 2.

Terminal 3 is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by 2020. The airport’s capacity has improved to more than 60 million passengers per year, placing it as one of 17 integrated airports in the world and the largest airport in Asia, based on the 2015 Megahubs Index.

Based on the 2013 World Airport Traffic Report, the Airports Council International (ACI) ranked the Soekarno-Hatta Airport as one of 10 busiest airports in the world.
