TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism Minister Arief Yahya expressed his support towards the preparation for the Indonesia Creative City Conference (ICCC) event scheduled to be held in Solo on October 22 to October 25, 2015. "The idea and initiative to develop creative cities are proven to be able to increase tourism and drive the economic cycle," said Arief Yahya.
Arief said Indonesia's tourist attractions are spread across Indonesia. Almost every regency and city has their own tourist attraction. "If developed further, those tourist attractions will be more appealing," said Arief on Monday, October 5, 2015.
The event aims to connect cities and regencies accross Indonesia, allowing them to share experiences, develop cultures, and social and economy condition. "All cities in Indonesia have tourism appeal if they are developed according to their characteristics," he said.
Arief continued that the creative city concept is a follow-up on the plan initiated by the Creative Economy Agency to turn Solo, Yogyakarta, Denpasar, Pekalongan and Bandung into creative cities.
ICCC chief organizer Irfan Sutikno said that around 60 creative cities from the Indonesian City Administration Association (APEKSI) will participate in the ICCC.
"In the conference, the cities will formulate 10 principles of creative cities in Indonesia," he said.
The ICCC event, which is the first ever to be held, is expected to provide an entry point for a creative city network in Indonesia. The network will hopefully synergize to strengthen the ASEAN Economic Community.
