TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Thick haze covering the surroundings of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin (SMB) II Airport in Palembang have disturbed the arrival and departure of plane schedules in the airport.
PT Angkasa Pura II Public Relations Manager Achmad Syahir said two planes canceled its landing in SMB II Airport due to the lack of visibility. The operational of the airport has not been closed, but there are some planes that returned to base, said Achmad on Thursday, August 27.
Planes returning to base are Garuda Indonesia on the Jakarta-Palembang route. Express Air flight on the Bandung-Palembang route that departed Thursday morning have also diverted its flight to Jakarta.
No aircrafts have been permitted to take-off from SMB II Airport. Achmad said flights were delayed, but the situation is still under control without any passenger pile-up.
Angkasa Pura has coordinate with many government agencies that deals with smoke anticipation caused by land fire. Achmad ensured that Angkasa Pura will strive to make fight schedules run normal.
Achmad say he can not predict how long the smokes will hamper aircraft flights “Depending on the weather,” he said. “If its not possible, the regulator will issue a statement whether or not its necessary to close it.”
