TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that in the first semester of 2015, Indonesia has managed to book a trade surplus of US$4.35 billion.
"With these figures I am optimistic in facing the ASEAN Economic Community at the end of this year and the economic challenges ahead." Minister of Trade Rachmat Gobel said on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
According to BPS data, trade with other ASEAN countries booked a surplus of US$ 221.9 million, with US$2.43 billion in exports and US$ 2.21 billion in imports. The only trade deficit recorded by the BPS was with Thailand, with with a total value of US$340.3 million.
"Not only are we achieving a surplus in trade with ASEAN countries but we are also in surplus with the United States, European Union, India, and Australia," Gobel said.
