TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After Eid holiday this year, the Indonesian Transportation Ministry will immediately obliged bus operators to sell bus tickets online.

According to Traffic and Land Transportation Director of the Ministry, Eddy, at the first stage, the new regulation will apply for non-economy class buses.

"On average, passengers for non-economy class buses are technology literate,” he said to Tempo on Saturday (4/7).

However, Eddi said that the implementation of the new regulation would depend on the agreement between the government and the Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda).

One thing for sure, he added, the online ticket selling system, bus operators will be able to provide more efficient services for the passengers, minimize passengers’ build-up at the bus stations and eradicate ticket scalpers.

"So far, bus services have been left behind from train or plane services,” Eddi said.

In the meantime, a number of bus operators said that they have prepared to sell the ticket online.

Organda Secretary General Ateng Aryono said that 34 out of 100 bus operators have expressed their readiness to sell bus ticket online. They also claimed that they are ready to implement the system.
