TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) said that consumers’ perception of the country’s economic condition in June 2015 has dropped compared to the previous month, based on a survey published by BI.

The survey indicated that the Economic Condition Index (IKE) in June 2015 stood at 100.3, decreasing by 2.3 points from 102.6 in the previous month.

“The decreasing IKE in June 2015 was caused by weakening in all of its components,” Bank Indonesia reported, as quoted by Bisnis.com on Friday, July 3, 2015.

Despite the Ramadan month, consumers still refrain to purchase long lasting goods, such as electronics, vehicles, household equipment in June 2015. In addition, the sluggish economy also resulted in low labor absorption, which in turn caused consumers’ perception of job availability to drop.

June’s IKE has dropped in 10 cities, particularly in Palembang with the biggest decline of -25.6 points, followed by Banjarmasin with -11.4 points. BI also reported that the biggest IKE decline occurred among respondents with Rp1 million – Rp2 million per month.
