TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry announced that it will immediately conduct inspection to type-A bus stations in 17 provinces.

The inspections are set to be done without previous notice in a bid to improve and support travel safety.

Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan, however, declined to tell when the inspections would be done. He also hoped that there would be significant improvements in those terminals to support the 2015 Ied Day travel.

“We will deploy officials to 17 provinces by checking 21 type-A bus stations,” he said on Friday.

Previously, Director General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry has already done impromptu inspections to 6 type-A bus stations in major cities in Indonesia.

From the inspection, the Ministry found that 48 percent of the intercity and interprovincial buses did not meet safety standard.
