TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Shinta Kamdani, the vice chairwoman for the environment, climate change and sustainable development at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), said investors and business owners had been consistently concerned about issues pertaining to permits for foreign workers.
“[Investors] have consistently complained about the problems,” Shinta told Tempo on Wednesday, June 3, 2015.
Shinta revealed despite urgent demand for foreign workers to train local workers, it would take them months to obtain their employment permits. Shinta added that such an issue could stymie the development of a project.
According to Shinta, the Manpower Ministry should streamline the employment permit procedures for foreign workers as the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) did with its online permit system through a one-stop integrated service (PTSP) office.
The BKPM’s online system, Shita added, had allowed the institution to monitor the whole permit issuance procedures, as well as all related personnel in doing their jobs.
