TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia ended their badminton title hunt in Sudirman Cup as the team was defeated against China 1-3 in semfinal battle in Dongguan on Saturday, May 16.

Indonesia took the lead in men’s double as Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan overpowered Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng 21-16, 21-17.

The host nation caught up in women’s single session as Bellaetrix Manuputty withdrew from the game with injury. China’s Li Xuerui secured point for her nation.

Later in men’s single battle, Indonesian junior shuttler Jonatan Christie lost in straight set against 2014 world champion Chen Long 10-21 and 15-21.

“It was my first encounter with Chen Long and I felt a little nervous. It was also my first experience to play under such kind of spectators atmosphere. To be honest, I’ve been playing in five courts and this one is different for me. But I learned a lot from this match,” said Jonatan.

Indonesian women’s double shuttlers Greysia Polii/Nitya Krishinda confirmed the end of Indonesia’s as they could not survive tight game against Tang Yuanting/Yu Yang.
