TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The government is planning to build 13 economic zones outside of Java Island and two others in Java. The groundbreaking of the projects will be started from this yearend until mid-2015.
The economic zones will be built in a number of regions, including in Papua, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Maluku, Sumatera and Java Islands. Industry Ministry’s industrial zone development director general Imam Haryono said the development of the 15 economic zones would last for 5-7 years.
“All [of the economic zones] are in the planning stage,” Imam said on Monday, November 10, 2014.
Imam explained that he was still calculating the investment value in the 15 economic zones, including the number of jobs to be opened. The government is planning to make the economic zones in Java to produce consumer goods, while those outside of Java will be producing other types of product.
Imam said that products from each economic zone would be adjusted with local resources, regional government commitment, infrastructure, energy supplies, human resources and markets.
