TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Industry Saleh Husin, said on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, that the continuation of the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) program needs to be discussed with Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil. Saleh revelaed that he was scheduled to have a coordination meeting with Sofyan Djalil to discuss Industry Ministry work programs for the next five years.

"There are several work programs [to discuss]. But it would be better if I revealed them after the meeting," Saleh said.

When the LCGC policy was enforced last year, many regional heads, including Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, rejected the policy that was made by the central government. The LCGC program was considered to contravene regional heads' programs to reduce traffic jam and improve air quality.

Sudirman M. Rusdi, the chairman of the Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers Association (Gaikindo), hopes that President Jokowi’s administration would continue the LCGC program. Sudirman revealed that Gaikindo is planning to meet Industry Minister Saleh Husin to elaborate the contributions made by LCGC industries to the country’s economy over the year.
