TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The crossing tariff at eight seaports was officially increased on Monday, September 15. The increase of 8 to 12 percent was effective at 00:00 local time.
Indonesian Logistics Association (ALI) chairman Zaldy Masita said that logistics companies were not actually making an issue of the increased tariff because the crossing cost is merely 1 percent of the total operational cost of land logistics. “Instead, illegal levies are more expensive. It's reached 3 to 5 percent (of the total cost),” he said when contacted by Tempo, Saturday, September 12.
However, according to Zaldy, with the increase, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry should be able to ensure the traffic to be flowing smoothly at the ports. Long queues of vehicles when they enter they ports have wasted their money more than the crossing fees.
Zaldy viewed that PT ASDP should guarantee this, “For instance, if the queues are more than three hours, then there should be a tariff discount of a certain percent. “There should be a penalty,” he said.
