Increased Tariff, Number of Ferries Needs to be Raised

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Logistics Association (ALI) urged the increase in crossing tariff between provinces should be matched with the increase in the number of ferries since the waiting time of long queues has become an issue for logistics companies.
"We don't have a problem with the increased tariff, but what's really important is to cut the queues," said ALI chairman Zaldy Ilham Masita yesterday.
The crossing tariff has no huge impact on their logistics costs. On the other hand, the long period of time waiting could raise the transportation to 10 percent per day. "We have no problem with the increased tariff, but the maximum waiting time should be two hours only," Zaldy said.
One of the methods is by adding the number of ferries at every crossing port. The government has been urged to consider enlarging the size of ferries and roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ships used for crossings.
The new tariff will be effective at eight ports tomorrow at 00.00 local time.
