TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian shuttler Simon Santoso will finally be able to invigorate Indonesia in 2014 BWF World Badminton Championships in Denmark on August 25 to 31.
Simon has been included in the list of main players after representative from China, Du Pengyu, quit because of injuries. “I’m grateful that I finally passed,” said Simon, who is ranked 10th in the world, on Monday.
Simon has been preparing himself and said he will do his best for the World Championships.
Based on the drawing held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday, Simon will face Pablo Abian, the world’s 48th best player, in the first round. Simon last competed against the Spanish player in the 2007 World Championships where Simon won two games with 21-18 and 21-15.
However, Simon said his feats in those games cannot be used as a benchmark for the game later. “I don’t to underestimate my opponent. European players are usually tough when they play in Europe,” he said.
