TEMPO.CO, Bogor - Bogor Babakan Madang sector police’s Criminal Investigation Unit in West Java have arrested two robbers specializing in stealing modules and batteries of base transceiver station (BTS) owned by cellular phone operator Telkomsel. The perpetrators have been identified as Ahmad Taufik also known as Opik (38) and Hartanto or Tanto (40).

"Opik is a former employee of the tower owner, Telkomsel," said Babakan Madang sector police chief Adj. Comr. Hepi Hanappi yesterday, July 18. Opik and Tanto worked together in committing their crime.

Hepi said that both perpetrators were arrested at their homes on Monday, July 15. The two had been in action two weeks earlier on July 1 at 21.00 local time at a tower located in Babakan Rawahaur village in Babakan Madang sub-district.

Telkomsel incurred Rp50 million in losses due to the robbery. "The perpetrators took one unit of TRX (signal transmitter and receiver) and two units of batteries," said Hepi yesterday. Further investigation revealed that they did not only committed their act in Sentul village but also in 17 other locations around Bogor. "Since they’re a part of a syndicate, there is a possibility that they received order from another party. We’re investigating that, too," said the police chief.
