TEMPO.CO, London – Liverpool's striker Luis Suarez is facing the possibility of receiving a sanction from the English Football Association (FA) for biting Chelsea’s defender, Branislav Ivanovic during a match at the Anfield stadium. The match resulted in a 2-2 draw.

Suarez and Ivanovic were head to head in the penalty box when Suarez bit him, yet the referee, Kevin Friend, did not give any warning to Suarez, who had received a yellow card earlier due to a handball. However, Suarez is expected to be charged by the Football Association and could receive a lengthy ban.

Previously in 2010, Suarez has done the same offense when he bit the shoulder of PSV Eindhoven’s midfielder Otman Bakkal. At that time, he was playing for Ajax Amsterfam, and banned from playing in seven matches due to the incident.

Other than Suarez, Jermain Defoe also commited similar offense in 2006 when he bit West Ham United’s Javier Mascherano. However, he only received a yellow card without further sanction from the FA.
