TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that the airport in the new capital city of Nusantara or IKN in East Kalimantan will be ready for landing, including receiving the presidential plane, in early September 2024. As previously reported, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is expected to move to IKN in September.
Met in Jakarta on Monday, August 26, Budi confirmed the readiness of the airport, including the runway, which was tested on Sunday, August 25, using a King Air 200 PK CAO calibration aircraft.
"The take-off and landing test, which was conducted using a King Air Type 200 PK CAO calibration aircraft, went smoothly and without any problems," Budi Karya Sumadi said.
The Minister of Transportation together with the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono witnessed the runway test in person. The activity was part of the proving flight, which is an operational process to ensure the readiness of new air routes.
Basuki Hadimuljono also confirmed the information about Jokowi's base from IKN. "From what I know about President Jokowi's program, once the IKN airport is operational in the first week of September, he will move there," he said.
