TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono announced that Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka will conduct a trial run of the free lunch program in Jakarta today, August 7, 2024. However, Heru did not disclose the specific location of the trial.

“The trial is happening today, but I won't be able to accompany Mr. Gibran as I have a plenary session,” Heru stated at the Jakarta Arts Building on Wednesday.

Heru is scheduled to attend a plenary meeting at the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) at 2:30 p.m. Jakarta time.

The Jakarta provincial government will conduct its own free lunch trial next Monday. Heru plans to collaborate with regional-owned enterprises (BUMD) to provide the meals.

“We will involve BUMD Dharma Jaya [in the trial later]. The local community can also participate. The main focus is ensuring that the food is nutritious,” Heru explained.

Gibran has previously conducted trials of free lunch in elementary schools in several regions, including Surabaya on August 1, Solo on July 26, and Tangerang on August 5.
