Heru Budi's Name Not Listed as Candidates for Jakarta Deputy Governor

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heru Budi Hartono's name is not on the list of candidates for acting governor submitted by the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Heru Budi, who is currently serving as acting governor, was recommended by only one faction, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), in a meeting of the Jakarta DPRD.
Heru Budi's term will end on October 17, 2024 after two years as acting governor to fill the seat vacated by Anies Baswedan.
The Jakarta DPRD proposed three candidates for the position of acting governor of Jakarta, namely Teguh Setyabudi, Akmal Malik and Tomsi Tohir.
"We will submit the three names to the Ministry of Home Affairs to be considered by the Minister of Home Affairs in selecting the acting governor of DKI Jakarta," said Jakarta DPRD interim chairman Achmad Yani at the DKI Jakarta DPRD building on Friday, September 13.
Yani said that Teguh Setyabudi received the most votes at the meeting with 8. Teguh is the director general of population and civil registration at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The second and third candidates with 7 votes each were Tomsi Tohir, the deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Akmal Malik, the director general of regional autonomy at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Ministry of Home Affairs' Regulation No. 4 of 2023 on Acting Governors, Acting Regents and Acting Mayors states that the proposal for the Acting Governor is made by the Minister and the Provincial DPRD.
The mechanism: the provincial DPRD proposes three names of candidates for Acting Governor who meet the requirements to the Ministry of the Interior. Later, the Minister of Home Affairs may receive input from ministries/non-ministerial government institutions regarding the proposed names.
After it is deemed complete and an agreement is reached, the Minister of Home Affairs, through the Secretary of State, submits the three proposed candidates for Acting Governor to the President for his consideration.
