TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian passports come in three distinct colors: green, blue, and black. Each color signifies a specific type of passport with different functions.
Owning a passport is essential for Indonesian citizens (WNI) who wish to travel internationally. Before embarking on your journey, ensure you have the correct passport type.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s page, here are 3 types of Indonesian passports and their functions:
Types of Indonesian Passports:
1. Green Passport
This is the most common passport type, issued to Indonesian citizens for private international travel. It comes in two formats: Electronic Ordinary Passport (e-Passport) and Non-electronic Ordinary Passport.
The E-passport is the newer version with an embedded chip containing biometrics for enhanced security. The non-electronic passport is the physical passport booklet without an electronic chip.
Green passports are generally valid for 10 years for citizens with an ID card or married status. Renewal is necessary upon expiry.
Regular passport applications are handled at local immigration offices and require supporting documents like KTP (ID card), KK (family card), birth certificate, and additional documents for working abroad.
2. Blue Passport
This blue passport is designated for Indonesian officials traveling abroad for official state duties. It is typically issued to civil servants, select state officials, and citizens performing Indonesian government duties.
Applications for blue passports bypass local immigration and are submitted directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an authorized official. The validity period generally aligns with the official's assigned duty but does not exceed five years. Renewal is required upon expiry.
3. Black Passport
The black passport is reserved for Indonesian diplomats, families assigned to Indonesian representatives abroad, and select officials traveling for diplomatic purposes.
Issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, black passports are valid for a maximum of five years and require renewal upon expiry. Diplomatic passports expedite travel and ensure security clearances for diplomats overseas.
