TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi led a National Prayer at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta this evening, August 1, 2024, as one of the series to kick off the commemoration of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day.
"This is an annual event held every August 1. We‘re inviting approximately 3,163 people," said Deputy for Protocol and Presidential Secretariat Yusuf Permana via text message to Tempo on Thursday.
Yusuf said that participants include Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Onward Indonesia Cabinet ministers, the Zikir Assembly, leaders of Islamic organizations and boarding schools, clerics, and Islamic students.
The Independence Day celebration this month will include several main agendas, such as the inauguration of the National flag-hoising team on August 9.
President Jokowi will also deliver a national speech and the 2025 State Budget Bill on August 16, 2024. On the eve of Independence Day, a reflection night will be held at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery led by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.
The reflection night will also take place at Kusuma Bangsa Park in IKN, led by President Jokowi. The reflection night will commence at midnight. In the morning, the ceremony of Indonesian Independence Day will be held following Jakarta Time.
In addition to the main agendas, the series of celebrations will include a joint exhibition on presidential archives and artifacts at Taman Ismail Marzuki Park from August 8 to 20, 2024.
