Jokowi in Final Cabinet Meeting: Ensure Smooth Government Transition, Prevent Ripples of Turmoil

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi delivers his final messages in the last Cabinet Meeting at Garuda Palace in Nusantara Capital City (IKN) on Friday, September 13, 2024.

The president asks his cabinet to fully support the programs that the next government plans to run. He also hopes that the Prabowo Subianto-led government could work promptly and quickly as soon as the inauguration is completed. 

“We all must fully support the president-elect programs, ensure an effective transition to the next government,” Jokowi said, according to the voice recording received in Jakarta today, as quoted by Antara.

To support Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s government, Jokowi mandates the Onward Indonesia Cabinet to release new policies that the new administration might require. 

“If needed, the new regulation must be promptly drafted, and completed, especially for the president-elect’s flagship programs,” Jokowi said. “So the new government could work promptly and run fast after inauguration.”

Jokowi requests the ministers to complete their priority programs in the last month of their working period, concerning absorption and administrative accountability. “Including unresolved problems,” he said. 

Jokowi also reminds the ministers about the importance of maintaining stability to ensure development sustainability. “Maintain the conducive situation, we need stability to keep growing, we need stability for development, so ensure there are no ripples of turmoil until the new government is formed,” he said.

To create a conducive situation, Jokowi asks his ministers to maintain the citizens’ purchasing power, economic growth, as well as security and order. He also warns his cabinet to avoid making extreme regulations, especially ones concerning the livelihood of the citizens. 

“(And) regulations that could cause harm or turmoil within society,” the President said. 

In between working from IKN, Jokowi will keep visiting various regions in Indonesia for a working visit.
