TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The office for President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Presidential Palace in the new capital of Nusantara or IKN in East Kalimantan will be ready before Indonesia's Independence Day on August 17, 2024.
The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) made the announcement through the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force.
“The Presidential Office and Palace in IKN can be used before August 17. The buildings and supporting infrastructure are complete,” Danis Sumadilaga, Head of the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force, said on Friday, July 26.
Danis added that the Presidential Secretariat and State Secretariat have already transported necessary furniture and furnishings to the IKN. “We've received confirmation that the initial set of furniture and equipment has arrived,” he said.
The Presidential Secretariat is actively preparing the office space for the President's transition to the new capital. In collaboration with the PUPR Ministry, they are finalizing all necessary arrangements to support the President's work in IKN. While some furniture and office equipment are still being procured, the overall preparations are progressing smoothly.
The government is planning a dual celebration for the 79th Independence Day, with events taking place in both IKN and Jakarta. A detailed announcement regarding the event schedule will be revealed in a press conference at the end of July.
With construction nearing completion, IKN is prepared to host the 79th Independence Day ceremony at full capacity.
