TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle or PDIP is considering the possibility of nominating Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok for the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. PDIP spokesman Cyril Raoul Hakim said Ahok's status was currently in the simulation stage.
"We are currently simulating and monitoring it for DKI Jakarta," Cyril, also known as Chico Hakim, told Tempo when contacted Monday, July 22.
Ahok has been predicted to run in the North Sumatra gubernatorial race. But according to Chico, the latest survey shows that Ahok still has strong support in Jakarta.
"In the Kompas Research and Development and other polls we looked at, Ahok is indeed very strong in Jakarta and is still desired by many Jakartans," he said.
On Tuesday, July 16, Kompas Research and Development released the results of a poll on the popularity of gubernatorial candidates for the 2024 Jakarta regional election. The survey, conducted between June 15-20, showed that Anies Baswedan and Ahok were in the top positions.
Anies Baswedan is in first place with an electability level of 29.8 percent. In second place, Ahok received 20 percent electability. Meanwhile, the former governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, is in third place with an electability of 8.5 percent.
