TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Asia is the largest and most populous continent in the world, encompassing countries of varying size.

The continent is divided into 5 regions, namely West Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Central Asia.

1. Russia

The first largest country in Asia is Russia with an area of 13 million square kilometers.

Not only is Russia the largest country in Asia, but it is also the largest country in the world by area.

The country stretches across 11 different time zones and has a diverse habitat that supports a number of species of flora and fauna.

2. China

Next, there is China with an area of about 9.5 million square kilometers. Not only in terms of area, China is also one of the largest countries in Asia by population.

3. India

In the third position, there is the country of India which has an area of about 3.2 million square kilometers.

Similar to China, India also has a large population, making it the most populous country in the world.

The country covers most of the Indian Peninsula and the coastline along the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.

4. Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is the fourth largest country in Asia with an area of 2.4 million square kilometers.

The country is located in Central Asia and borders the Caspian Sea, Russia, Uzbekistan Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and China. Parts of Kazakhstan are dominated by land areas.

5. Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is the fifth largest country on the Asian continent with an area of about 2,149,690 square kilometers.

The country has a coastline on the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. Most of Saudi Arabia is dominated by desert land.

Despite being a desert area, Saudi Arabia has the second largest oil reserves in the world and relies on the petroleum industry as a source of the country's economy.

6. Iran

In sixth position is the country of Iran with an area of 1,648,195 square kilometers. Iran is blessed with many mountains, basins and plateaus.

In addition, Iran is home to the third most UNESCO world heritage sites in Asia. The country has coastlines along the Gulf of Oman, Persian Gulf, and Caspian Sea.

7. Mongolia

Mongolia is a country located between China and Russia. It is the seventh largest country in Asia with an area of 1,566,000 square kilometers.

Mongolia is dominated by land and most of its territory is covered by mountains and steppe grasslands.

8. Indonesia

Indonesia as an archipelago is included in the list of the 10 largest countries in Asia with an area of 1,472,639 square kilometers. The country, which has more than 17,000 islands, has rich natural resources.

9. Pakistan

The ninth largest country in Asia is Pakistan with an area of 796,095 square kilometers.

The country borders the Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, China, Afghanistan and Iran. Pakistan also has a high level of biodiversity with a number of ecosystems inhabiting its territory.

10. Turkey

Turkey is another country that is included in the list of the largest countries in Asia. The country has an area of 747,272 square kilometers and is considered a transcontinental country because a small part of its territory is included in the European continent. Turkey borders the Black sea, the Sea of Marmara, and the Aegean sea.
