TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three Asian cities have been named among the world's best cities for nightlife by Time Out magazine. They are Singapore, Taipei, and Manila.
The list ranks the best cities for nightlife in 2024 and is based on a survey of thousands of people in hundreds of cities, asking respondents to rate their city's nightlife on quality and affordability.
Topping the list of the world's best night scenes is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Renata Magalhães, editor of Time Out Rio de Janeiro, cites the bustling Botafogo neighborhood, with venues like Alba and Vian Cocktail Bar, as a booming area. "It's a place to dance on weekends, and the streets have never been busier since the end of the pandemic," she said, as reported by Travel + Leisure.
Manila
Manila, the capital of the Philippines, came in second, with locals describing the city as "beautiful," "bright," and "alive" after dark. Time Out highlights Manila's bustling late-night food markets, such as the Divisoria, and the vibrant nightlife in neighborhoods such as Poblacion and Bonifacio Global City.
Taiwan
Number 12 on the list is Taipei, Taiwan. Locals point out that the city offers plenty of entertainment options after dark. Popular nightlife activities include visiting the bustling Shilin and Raohe night markets. Alternatively, visitors can cap off their night with a late-night hotpot at one of Taipei's many restaurants, such as Orange Shabu, which is open until 2:30 a.m.
Singapore
Singapore also made the list. While the city is praised for its quality nightlife, many locals complain about the high cost. Singapore is known for its swanky cocktail bars and high-end clubs. But travelers on a budget can still enjoy the city's nightlife at more affordable venues, such as low-key jazz bars and indie music joints.
