TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto ensured that the government would improve cyber security following the recent ransomware attack on the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS). According to the minister, the government would collaborate with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to tackle the issue.
"BSSN strives to improve cyber security by connecting to its command control in Ragunan," said Hadi during a press conference in Central Jakarta on Monday, July 1, 2024.
Hadi targets this month to resolve the data problem as President Joko Widodo or Jokowi previously requested. The minister also said his side would activate the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRE), monitored by BSSN. Additionally, Hadi mentioned the president had requested his ministry to review the presidential regulation related to cyber operations.
"We also urge users to use their passwords wisely,” he said. Minister Hadi explained that BSSN could find out which users always used passwords based on forensic examinations. "Therefore, law enforcement by BSSN and authorities is carried out in accordance with applicable regulations."
Meanwhile, the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs held a closed coordination meeting today at 10:00 a.m. local time regarding the attacked data center. The Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi, the Head of BSSN Hinsa Siburian, and the President Director of PT Telkom Ririek Adriansyah also attended the ministerial meeting.
The temporary national data center was attacked by ransomware on June 20, 2024, paralyzing many governmental services including Immigration. PT Telkom’s Director of Network and IT Solutions, Herlan Wijanarko, said on June 26 that data stored at the PDNS 2 Surabaya could not be recovered. The paralysis of PDNS 2 occurred due to a ransomware attack starting June 20, 2024.
