TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national team coach Shin Tae-yong (STY) officially announced the extension of his contract with Indonesia, which is rumored to last until 2027.

"We agreed to continue to fight together so that the Indonesian National Team is more advanced, performing, and worldwide," Shin Tae-yong wrote on his official social media site.

Previously, Shin Tae-yong, who replaced Simon McMenemy as Garuda squad tactician on December 28, 2019, was given a long-term contract for four years.

The following is a list of Shin Tae-yong's achievements with the Indonesian national team:

1. Runner-up of the 2020 AFF Cup

One of the achievements that Shin Tae-yong achieved with the Indonesian national team was becoming the runner-up in the 2020 AFF Cup. At that time, STY refreshed the Indonesian national team by including young players, with an average age of 23.8 years. There were doubts, STY proved his decision was right by bringing the young team to become runners-up in the 2020 AFF Cup.

Indonesia lost in the two-legged final to Thailand with an aggregate of 2-6. Asnawi Mangkualam and the team lost 0-4 in the first leg and drew 2-2 in the second meeting. Shin Tae-yong was chosen as the best coach in the tournament.

2. 2021 SEA Games Bronze Medal

The Indonesian U-23 National Team won a bronze medal at the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam, which will be held in 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 6. Advances to the Last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup

9. Indonesia's FIFA Ranking Increases Significantly

In Shin Tae-yong's hands, the Indonesian national team experienced a significant increase in its FIFA ranking. Through wins in a number of official tournaments and the FIFA Matchday calendar, Indonesia's ranking routinely increases every year.

In September 2021, Indonesia was still ranked 176th in FIFA. This ranking then rose 10 places in the following month to 165 and increased again to 155 in August 2022.
