TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stressed that the government and other member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) urged European countries to push for the implementation of a two-state solution “to overcome the Palestinian-Israeli conflict” during a meeting in Brussels, Belgium on Monday, May 26.

“This meeting is very important in the midst of the deteriorating situation in Palestine and the increasing disregard of the decisions of the International Court of Justice by Israel. I used the meeting to appeal to European countries so that the two-state solution can be implemented,” Retno said in a press statement published on the ministry’s page.

During the meeting, Retno conveyed three appeals. First, an immediate and permanent ceasefire. All parties should try to get Israel to abide by the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), stop military action in Rafah, and allow the delivery of humanitarian aid.

“In this regard, I stress that the role of the UN Security Council is very important. I deliberately conveyed this considering that some of the countries present at the meeting were members of the UN Security Council, such as Britain, Algeria, UAE, and Slovenia,” she added.

Second, continue to provide support to UNRWA because UNRWA's role is critical to prevent the humanitarian situation from worsening.

Third, the importance of recognizing Palestine and support for Palestine's membership in the United Nations. All countries need to use their influence so that the veto regarding Palestine's membership in the UN does not occur again in the UNSC. Palestinian membership in the UN will help Palestine in building its state.
