TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President-elect Prabowo Subianto asked those not wanting to be part of his upcoming government not to interfere with its programs. He made the statement during a national National Mandate Party (PAN) meeting held at JS Luwansa Hotel in South Jakarta on Thursday, May 9.

He said Indonesia’s current progress could not be halted unless the elites refused to cooperate. Hence, he claimed that he would run the administration with amicable forces and would not be bothered by the opposition.

“If you don't want to cooperate, don’t trouble [my future administration],” the Gerindra patron chief remarked.

He also requested the opposition to be mere spectators. “Please be a good spectator. We want to work,” he added.

Prabowo, who currently serves as the Defense Minister, stressed that he would work to secure Indonesia’s wealth and eradicate hunger in the country.

As previously reported, Prabowo has been actively meeting with his political opponents in the 2024 election after being declared the election winner by the General Elections Commission (KPU). Prabowo and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka had visited the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the NasDem Party. The two parties supporting Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar agreed to join the Prabowo-Gibran government.

On the other hand, Ganjar Pranowo, the former presidential candidate backed by the ruling party PDIP, had declared that he would not join the Prabowo-Gibran cabinet. PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said Ganjar's decision reflected the party’s stance.

However, it remained a personal statement as the PDIP would hold a national meeting at the end of May to determine its stance on the new government.
