TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Japanese Embassy announced that it is offering scholarships to Indonesian students who have graduated from high school or vocational school and equivalent to continue their education at universities/GAKUBU, College of Technology/KOSEN, and Specialized Training College/SENSHU in Japan for the 2025 academic year (April 2025). This scholarship is part of the Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship Program.

In a press statement received by Tempo, on Friday, April 19, 2024, before entering university/college, scholarship recipients will first attend a preparatory school for one year. During preparatory school, scholarship recipients will be provided with learning according to the chosen program.

The GAKUBU program for the social studies field will study general Japanese knowledge, mathematics, and English. The science field of study will study physics, chemistry and biology. The KOSEN program will study Japanese according to the college's specialization, general Japanese knowledge, mathematics and others. The SENSHU program will study Japanese according to college specialization, general Japanese knowledge, and others.

For applicants who choose the GAKUBU program in the social studies field, after being declared to have passed the primary screening, if MEXT assesses that the applicant has adequate Japanese language skills, the applicant will be directly placed at the university without attending a preparatory school first. This depends on the decision of MEXT and the universities in Japan. Provisions related to this will be explained after passing the primary screening.

For applicants who choose the GAKUBU program in the science field of study who have strong Japanese language skills and are interested in going straight to university without preparatory school, requests can be made after being declared to have passed the primary screening.

To be able to apply for this scholarship, one of the requirements is to have good academic grades and be born in or after April 2000. Among the facilities you will get are tuition fees that are fully covered, a living allowance of approximately 117,000 yen/month (Rp12 million ) and there are no official ties. Documents for scholarship selection must be sent/submitted to the Japanese Embassy office in Jakarta no later than May 8, 2024. Information regarding this scholarship is on the Japanese Embassy website in Jakarta.
