TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Global tech giant Microsoft planned to establish a data center in Indonesia with a whopping investment value of Rp14 trillion, as announced by Usman Kansong, the Director General of Communication and Public Information at the Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) Ministry.

He also confirmed that the CEO of the U.S.-based multinational company, Satya Nadella, is set to visit Jakarta at the end of this month to discuss the investment.

“It (the visit) is scheduled for April 30, 2024. Microsoft will build a data center in Indonesia with an investment value of Rp14 trillion,” Usman told Tempo in a short message on Thursday, April 18.

In addition to the investment plan, Microsoft is also set to launch a project aimed at empowering Indonesia's digital economy.

“Through this project, Microsoft can help increase state revenue by up to US$6.3 billion or more than Rp91 trillion, including the creation of 60,000 new jobs over the next four years,” he explained.

Nadella's upcoming visit to Jakarta will be the second visit of CEOs of global tech giants, following the visit of Apple’s CEO Tim Cook. Cook met with President Joko Jokowi Widodo at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Wednesday, April 17, where they discussed investment and regulations that would facilitate the investment plans as confirmed by Kominfo Minister Budi Arie Setiadi on Tuesday, April 16.
