TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - India's capital New Delhi has been named the world's most affordable travel destination this year in a survey by British website Wethrift. Coming in second place is Vietnam’s Hanoi.

To compile the list, Wethrift analyzed the world's most popular travel destinations based on various factors like the number of direct flights, cost of tourist attractions, affordability of public transport, price of a meal and drink, and accommodation for two people on weekends to reveal which destinations offer the best value.

According to the survey, meals in New Delhi such as butter chicken and chaat, a local delicacy, cost just £1.90 or around Rp38,000. Transportation is also considered cheap. Meanwhile, to stay overnight, the cost for two people at the weekend is around £39 or around Rp784,000 per night.

Public transport in Hanoi can cost as little as £0.23 (US$0.29), a meal costs around £1.71 or around Rp34,000 and the average price of a drink is £0.83 or Rp16,700.

A night’s stay for two people on weekends costs £32.42 or Rp652,000 while attraction tickets add up to £45 or around Rp905,000.

Delhi currently has 145 direct flights, while Hanoi currently has 61.

Cairo in Egypt ranked third on the list followed by Istanbul in Turkey and Hurghada also in Egypt. The rest of the list comprised Bali in Indonesia, Bangkok in Thailand, Marrakech in Morocco, Phuket in Thailand, and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
