Bocimi Toll Road Hit by Landslide After Few Months of Operation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A landslide occurred on Wednesday evening, April 3, 2024, on the section of the Bocimi Toll Road leading to the Parungkuda Toll Gate exit in Sukabumi Regency. A car fell into the gaping hole of more than 4 meters, injuring two passengers.

What happened at Bocimi Toll Road as it’s been less than a year since the inauguration by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on August 4 last year?

PT Waskita Toll Road (WTR) said the landslide that occurred on the Bogor-Ciawi-Sukabumi (Bocimi) Toll Road KM 64, Ciambar District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java towards Sukabumi was due to water scouring during heavy rain on Wednesday. The landslide occurred at around 08:00 p.m. local time after a downpour swept the area.

"The landslide is suspected to occur due to water scouring after heavy rain around the location. Currently, the management of PT Waskita Karya and PT Waskita Toll Road are conducting a site review to ensure handling and see the overall condition of the Bocimi Toll Road section," said PT Waskita Toll Road Corporate Secretary Alex Siwu in a written statement.

According to Alex, the landslide affected lane I of the main road of the Bocimi Toll Road. As a result of the incident, one car fell into a hole.

As an anticipatory measure, access from Parungkuda to Ciawi was temporarily closed to avoid subsequent landslides.

"We are tightening security around the location and at the Parungkuda Tollgate to anticipate vehicles entering from Jakarta, Bogor, or Sukabumi," he added.

The Bocimi Toll Road consists of four sections stretching along 53.6 kilometers connecting Bogor City and Bogor Regency with Sukabumi City and Sukabumi Regency.

Section 1 Ciawi-Cigombong has been in operation since December 2018. Section 2 Cigombong-Cibadak was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in August 2023, and is one of the toll roads prepared for the Eid homecoming flow.
