TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) officially ratified the bill on the special status of Jakarta (RUU DKJ) during the plenary session at the Nusantara II Building in the Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta on Thursday, March 28.

The law maintains Jakarta as the country's economic hub after the government relocates the capital city to the State Capital of Nusantara or IKN in East Kalimantan.

The plenary meeting was presided over by House Speaker Puan Maharani. After the gavel was pounded, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, representing the government, gave his final opinion on the bill.

Almost all parties agreed to ratify the bill except the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). The agreed parties were PDIP, Golkar, Gerindra, PKB, Democrat, Nasdem, PAN, and PPP.

At the meeting, PKS raised an objection to the bill, proposing that Jakarta remain the legislative capital.

Anshory Siregar, a member of the House Legislative Council (Baleg) from the PKS faction, claimed that the discussion of the DKJ bill was rushed and lacked public participation.

“This bill was discussed in a hurry, in such a rush. I heard that the DPR building [at IKN] has not been built yet, they say it will be built when it is approved by the DPR. This is being decided in such a hurry,” he said.
